There are a lot of YA series out there that I have enjoyed - Nicholas Flamel, Percy Jackson and Harry Potter (just to name a few). This series got a lot of rave reviews on Amazon and Goodreads so I started reading them about a year ago. They intrigued me, but nothing that I would rave about.
Clary Fray and Simon Lewis are at a club when Clary witnesses a group of teens murdering a young boy. Jace, the killer, claims that the boy was a demon. Jace, along with Alec and Isabelle are teenage Shadowhunters who fight and kill evil creatures like the teenage demon, vampires and other "mythical" creatures. Sound familiar? Seems to be a popular theme these days. The human (mundane) world isn't supposed to be able to see supernatural beings, so Jace takes Clary to the Institute to determine what role she plays.
This series is Harry Potter turned urban fantasy, with Clary as our distressed heroine who doesn't realize her potential until she is brought into the world of magic. There is an evil Shadownhunter, Valentine, who wants to rid the world of all human life. Turns out he's her father, and he's now after her. Cue dramatic music. While getting the images, I found out they are going to be turning the first book into a movie, and people believe it will be the next biggest thing after Twilight.
If you're looking for something familiar, slightly entertaining, with a predictable plot here you go. I think the series should have stopped with the third book. I just finished the fourth and didn't even want to finish it. There seems to be too much teenage drama, with a little bit of intriguing plot.
